Webinar on displacement financing in the Middle East

Webinar on displacement financing in the Middle East

DSP hosted a regional webinar on the role of financing for protracted displacement on 23 March 2022. In the lead up to the annual Brussels Conference on supporting the future of Syria and the region, the DSP is contributing to the discussions through new research exploring how financing can better support pathways to durable solutions. Financing for Protracted Displacement (DSP and Development Initiatives, January 2022) includes an overall regional synthesis paper and Jordan, Lebanon, and Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) specific reports.

With the Syrian crisis now in its 12th year and international funding increasingly constrained and increased competition for resources it was important to examine what type of financing are required to fund solutions to displacement and how to use limited resources in the most effective way.

The main panel addressed:

  • How can financing be used to create a more enabling environment for medium and longer-term approaches and the role of donors in supporting nexus approaches, strengthening coordination and governance frameworks? Thomas Thomsen, Head of Cooperation, DANIDA

  • What has been the key challenges, learning and the types of investment required to strengthen access and quality of care for all in Lebanon? Eduard Tschain, Country Director, International Medical Corps, Lebanon
